Public Works Permits
Attention: Notice of Change to Fence and Excavation Permit Submittal Process. Starting April 15, all Fence and Excavation permits must be submitted through the Citizen Access Portal.
The following information is intended as a guide to help property owners, consultants and contractors navigate the City of Missoula’s Public Works permitting process. Select your permit type (below) to determine which permits are required for your project and determine how to apply for a permit.
Utility and Engineering Inspections
Call (406) 552-6040 or Text (888) 413-4439 for the IVR Inspection Hotline to schedule all City Engineering inspections and final inspections. Printable Instructions and inspection codes are available online.
The permit number is required when calling in inspections. This number was provided on the permit at time of payment and issuance. The permit number can be found by going to the permitting portal, clicking on Engineering and searching by address (street number and street name only). No registration on ACA is required for this.
Excavation Permit(s) (20YY-MSS-EXC-#####) are required for:
- All public and private Sanitary Sewer Mains, Water Mains, Storm Water Mains, within the Right-of-Way (ROW) or within Public Utility Easements (PUE), both for new construction and for repairs to existing mains.
