About our Chief
The Missoula Fire Department welcomes Chief Lonnie Rash as our new Fire Chief.
A proud Montana native, Chief Rash was raised in Bozeman and is excited to return to his home state to serve the Missoula community.
Chief Rash joins us from Spokane County Fire District 8 in the City of Spokane Valley, where he has served as Fire Chief since 2020. He brings more than 25 years of fire service experience, including the past decade in key leadership roles.
During his tenure in Spokane, Chief Rash oversaw a range of critical initiatives, including the development of a new $6.3 million fire station and the renovation of an existing station. His broad leadership experience includes emergency operations, labor relations and negotiations, capital funding and infrastructure development, financial and capital replacement planning, strategic planning, and human resources management.

The collaborative efforts of the Missoula County Fire Protection Association (MCFPA) utilizing fuel type moisture and current response capabilities within the area assist in determining the levels of Fire Danger. Most fires are human caused and can be prevented.
