Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) recognizes both financial reporting and budgeting with their Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and the Distinguished Budget Presentation awards.
Every year since 1997, the City of Missoula has earned the prestigious Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, which is valid for one fiscal year.
In order to be awarded a Certificate of Achievement of Excellence in Financial Reporting by the GFOA, a government unit must achieve the highest standards in government accounting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The annual report is judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the annual report.
Distinguished Budget Presentation Award
The GFOA also recognizes the commitment of a governing body and its staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting and awards its significant Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
The City of Missoula was awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for fiscal years 2008 through 2018.
In order for the entity to receive the budget award it must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. Those guidelines assess how well the budget document serves as:
